About Prayana

A Journey Through Art

Prayana — meaning "journey" — is an artistic path where dance becomes a language of storytelling, expression and exploration. Rooted in Bharatanatyam yet open to contemporary creativity, every step moves toward something deeper.

Our Story

Where Tradition Meets Transformation

Prayana was inaugurated on 24 June 2023 in Tripunithura by Sri Shijith Nambiar and Srimati Parvathi Menon. From that first gathering of students and teachers, it has grown through dance training, performances, choreography, productions, workshops and collaborations.

Our Vision

A Space for Artists

To create a space where tradition, creativity and individuality meet — nurturing confident, expressive artists who carry the art forward.

Our Mission

What We Stand For

  • Meaningful dance education
  • Preservation of classical traditions
  • Creative and individual expression
  • Original choreography and productions
  • Performance opportunities
  • Artistic collaborations
  • A supportive community for dancers and artists
Tradition & Roots

Rooted in Tradition. Growing Through Exploration.

Our training begins with the foundations of Bharatanatyam — Adavus, Nritta, Nritya, Natya, Abhinaya, Mudras, Tala, repertoire and theory, including the foundational concepts of the Natyashastra.

Students are guided through the traditional performance journey — Chilanka Pooja, traditional performances and Arangetram — building discipline, knowledge and quiet stage confidence.

Our Artistic Approach

Balance of Tradition & Exploration

Prayana weaves together Bharatanatyam, contemporary movement, Abhinaya, storytelling, music and visual expression — a deliberate balance between tradition and exploration.
